Network Rail - Transportation

Network Rail is the owner and infrastructure manager of most of the rail network in England, Scotland and Wales.

Network Rail’s main customers are the separate and mostly private train operating companies, responsible for passenger transport, and freight operating companies, who provide train services on the infrastructure that the company owns and maintains.

The Network Rail infrastructure includes 20,000 miles of railway tracks, signals, overhead wires, tunnels, 40,000 bridges, level crossings and over 2,500 stations.

Network Rail is directly accountable to the Secretary of State for Transport.
