With this in mind, here are five ways you can make your life in health and safety easier, faster and more efficient.

Action plan

Decide and describe how you will be tackling your health and safety. Through full visibility of your management plans, areas of weakness can be flagged up quickly and further actions put in place to make your health and safety solution even sturdier.

For large organisations with different bases across different locations visibility may be an issue. This is where technology plays a very important part. Make your health and safety plans easily shareable so everyone within your company can view, understand and comment.

Communicate

After visualising your plans for health and safety management ensure you communicate thoroughly with your employees. This will save you time and effort in the long run. Through including employees in your plan you’re encouraging them to get on board with your health and safety plans and to start understanding why it is so important. A company whose employees are kept in the loop about how and why health and safety plans help them will be more open and understanding to changes.

Consider everyone

Don’t forget to consider everyone when creating a plan to manage risks in the workplace. Some employees may have special requirements or needs that should be considered. This could be due to pregnancy, inexperience or disabilities. These people may need to be assessed additionally to ensure risks are controlled.

Don’t forget about the people who might not work on site every day: the contractors, freelancers or maintenance workers. There may be specific risks to look out for relating to these individuals. Incorporate these into your health and safety plan at the very beginning in order to save you time and effort in the long run.

Training

Training employees on how to work safely in their job will save money, hassle and most importantly prevent injuries further down the line. As in the comment above, don’t forget about your external or contracted workers. Their safety is just as important.

A lack of knowledge can not only affect an individual but those around them including members of the public. Bring in external trainers with knowledge and experience to educate people, but also the ability to motivate and inspire people.

Reporting

Use software to make your life easier, your decisions more informed and your workplace safer. Being able to give employees access to reporting software wherever they are in the world means health and safety managers can gain a clear and in depth view of where weaknesses lie.
